Blue is the fallback backdrop when the subject has green in it: plants, clothing, or props that a green key would cut holes in.
This field lights only the blue sub-pixels. A dead blue sub-pixel shows as a dark dot, and a stuck red or green one as a dot of the wrong colour.
A blue field makes a strong cool rim or background light for photos and video, and pairs well with a warm key light.
Flick between red, green, and blue and compare how evenly each fills the panel. A patch that only shows up on one of them points at that channel.
Blue contributes the least to how bright a colour looks, so a full blue field looks far darker than red or green at the same setting. That makes it the hardest field to judge uniformity on. Give your eyes a few seconds on it before deciding a patch is dim.
Most camera sensors capture half as much detail in blue as in green, and the blue channel is usually the noisiest. Expect a slightly rougher edge from a blue key, and only choose it when green is not an option.
